The Skincare You Really Need For Accutane

The word all acne suffers fear... Accutane. It's the Voldemort of the skin care world and when  I heard the word 'Accutane' come out of my dermatologists mouth, I could have stop, dropped and rolled there and then.
In case you are lucky enough to not know what Accutane is, it's a Vitamin A drug that aims to significantly reduce the body's oil production and target Acne at the root... sounds wonderful doesn't it. The drug can lead to cracked lips, extremely dry skin and it also has some other nasty side effects. You have to have monthly blood tests and practically sacrifice a goat to get a dermatologists approval!
When I got past the initial stage of panic and thinking my skin would melt off my face, I thought how can I help my skin through this? Some of these products are recommended by my dermatologist and others are products that have helped me so far!

1. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
My dermatologist told me to use a cleanser that wasn't too harsh and 'didn't promise too much'. She specifically recommended the CeraVe range and anything that claimed to hydrate the skin. I actually really love this cleanser and can see myself using it after I've completed Accutane. It's so mild and leaves my skin super soft and clean.

2. Eucerin Acute Lip Balm
I did not know the meaning of dry lips until I started Accutane. You are going to need lip balm. Gallons of lip balm. Invest in shares of lip balm because that's how much you are going to need. My dermatologist told me I would need to apply it every 15 minutes... I thought 'yeah right 15 minutes, I won't need to apply it that often'... How wrong I was... How naive I was... I practically bathe in lip balm at this point. I apply it about every 10 minutes because my. lips. are. so. dry!
The Eucerin one is my favourite, it has a balm like texture and is super thick so lasts the longest on my lips and takes away any tightness.

3. Kiehl's Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment
Now this is something I already use and love, but after one week on Accutane, my under eye area was so dry ad starting to flake and crack. I used this treatment morning and night and it made such a difference to my under eyes, they looked really healthy and weren't flaking at all!

4. La Roche Posay SPF 50
Usually when it comes to winter, I am a bit of a slacker with the SPF, I know your supposed to wear it everyday, but I just always forget. Not anymore! It is recommended that Accutane users wear a high SPF daily to prevent burning because of how dry your skin is. I love this one from La Roche Posay, it doesn't leave a white cast, doesn't look greasy and doesn't have that horrible suncream smell. I also love the Glossier Daily SPF but it only comes in a factor 30.

5. Eucerin Aquaphor
This is a saviour for cracked skin. For some reason my nose was the first place to be struck. It was so dry and cracked and becoming increasingly painful, I didn't know what to do! I picked this up after reading about it online and I have already used half a tube. I slather any cracked, dry or tight areas in this thick balm and it really takes away all the tightness and pain! I use this everywhere hands, elbows, nose, it really is a wonder balm.

6. Revolution Night Restore Oil
Putting an oil on my skin at night really helped with the dryness. It made my skin so much easier to apply makeup on top of in the morning and stopped my face feeling like cracked leather overnight! I love this Revolution Night Oil because it feels like it stays on my skin and takes a long time to absorb. This may not be great for anyone who wants a quick absorbing oil but for me this is ideal!

June Empties

I can't believe another month has rolled around and it's time for another monthly empties review. I got through six products this month (I know, I'm proud) and it was a bit of a mix of everything; Haircare, Skincare and makeup. Firstly, I used up my La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Sensitive SPF 50 Sunscreen. This isn't my favourite SPF but it does do the job. I wear three pumps of this on my face every day and it has lasted about 3 months. I think the formula is ok it can feel a bit sticky and takes a while to sink in but it isn't my favourite but it isn't a product I don't like. I have repurchased this, because SPF is THE most important part of my skincare routine and when I ran out I knew I could run to Superdrug and repurchase this, because I did not want to go without. Secondly, I finished my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. I cannot remember the last time I finished a foundation! This is, without a doubt, my favourite drugstore foundation. It bl...

July Empties

Ahhh another month another empties blog. I actually got through quite a bit of makeup this month, which is unusual for me as it's usually skincare I crank through.  The first product I used up was my beloved Glossier Futuredew. I didn't realise how much I loved this until it was gone. My makeup feels so much different without this as a base and I do miss it as part of my makeup routine. I have a few other primers to get through but I will definitely repurchase this one in the future. The second product I used was my benefit liquid eyeliner. I did like this liner; it's opaque, the felt tip is quite nice and it lasted such a long time before drying up. I do prefer brush tipped eyeliners as I find with hooded eyes my winged eyeliner always looks a lot more precise than with a pen style. So I purchased the KVD liquid eyeliner instead, but the benefit eyeliner is great just not my favourite.  My third empty is my smash box primer water. I adore this spray, it comes out as a f...

Reviewing Bioderma's Hydrabio Range

If you've followed my blog for a few years, you'll know Bioderma is one of my favourite skincare brands. Their Micellar water is a product I refuse to live without and I've gone through too many to count. I was over the moon when Bioderma kindly sent me their Hydrabio Range* to try. The Hydrabio range is aimed at combating dehydrated, dry, skin, which I'm especially prone to in winter. 1. Hydrabio Makeup Removing Micellar Water Now, Bioderma's Sensibio micellar water is a holy grail skincare product in my collection. Believe it or not, I didn't realise Bioderma did other varieties of micellar water for different skin concerns. I've been using the Hydrabio micellar water for a few days and I do find my skin feels more hydrated and plump, compared to the sensibio one. It removes makeup just as well as the Sensibio micellar water and I find the Hydrabio micellar water to be a little more gentle and soothing. I would definitely repurchase the Hydrabio version in...
