My Acne Skincare Routine

I've had acne since I was bout 12 and I'm now 19, if you have acne you will know the endless struggle of trying every skincare product under the sun praying that this will be the one to make the difference... and it doesn't. So after buying SO many products, I thought do I actually know what I'm putting on my face and why?  A year ago I decided to really look at what I was putting on my skin and why I was putting it on and a year later, poomf! I now only get the odd hormonal spot flaring up, but my acne and scarring is gone! Here's a rundown on the AM and PM routine that saved my skin.

AM
1. In the morning I only wash my face with warm water, as using a cleanser twice a day can actually be too harsh on your skin and strip it of natural oils, so I use a muslin cloth and just press it against my skin. I find this so much more beneficial than using a cleanser twice a day!
2.La Roche-Posay Soothing Toning Lotion
I love toners and think they are so underrated, but found they always sting my skin and feel so harsh on my skin. I found this online and decided to buy it as it was designed for sensitive skin and feels so refreshing.
3.Glossier Priming Moisturiser
This is perfect under makeup as its so lightweight and absorbs so quickly. I used to use heavy moisturisers in the morning and found my makeup slid off and my acne just became worse! Using a light weight moisturiser really stopped my skin becoming so oily and greasy!
4.Glossier  Invisible Sun Shield SPF 30
SPF is one of those products I know I should be applying everyday, but just couldn't handle the greasy, thick feeling. Then I found this one and never looked back. The formula is like a gel so just sinks right in, it's also clear so doesn't have a white cast under makeup. Using an SPF really helped my acne scarring and my skin is not as red.

PM
1. BareMinerals Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil
After looking at the benefits of using oil in a skincare routine, I decided to invest in a few more oil based products. This is prefect for melting makeup away, and is no where near as harsh as using wipes or cotton pads.
2.BareMinearals Clay Chameleon Transforming Purifying Cleanser
Clay was another purifying product I fell in love with, after reading the benefits it has to shrinking pores, removing impurities and removing dirt and grime from the skin. This cleanser does it all and doesn't leave my skin with a tight or drying feeling.
3.La Roche-Posay Soothing Toning Lotion
Yeah I would take a bath in this stuff if I could...
4.Glossier Solution
I have gone through so many of these I can't tell you. I decided to use a chemical exfoliant, rather than a physical one, because it just became too harsh for my skin and acne. Sine using this I noticed a difference in my acne scarring but that wasn't why I fell in love with it... The glow this gives your skin, makes your skin look alive. It looks like I've drank my weight in water! It keeps my skin smooth and gets rid of any nasty texture on my skin.
5.Kiehl's Nightly Refining Micro-Peel
I use this pretty sparingly, because it is quite intense, but I apply this to any stubborn scarring or pesky spots that flare up and by morning they look almost blurred, which makes them easier to cover and means they fade into nothing fairly quickly.
6.Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate For Night
As if my love of oil wasn't strong enough, my mum gave me this as I'd read that using a concentrated oil, can not only remove scarring but prevent any further scarring from acne. This smells amazing, it smells like I'm in a spa! It sinks in immediately so doesn't have that lingering oily feeling, i also have seen a dramatic decrease in my scarring from using this.
7.Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser for Dry/Sensitive Skin
This is one of those moisturisers that does the job. It does have a strong scent, but find when I wake up, my skin looks so plump and restored, that I just became obsessed with it. It moisturised my skin without sitting on my skin or feeling to intense, it's prefect for anyone with acne that wants an intense moisturisers without the greasy oily feeling that goes with it.
8.BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Eye Gel Cream
I know this isn't really acne related but I just couldn't leave it off. This is the eye cream for people who don't believe that eye creams work. I really had lost all faith in the shopping bags under my eyes. But this gel eye cream really changed that. I hardly use concealer under my eyes after using this, because they just look so bright and awake!

June Empties

I can't believe another month has rolled around and it's time for another monthly empties review. I got through six products this month (I know, I'm proud) and it was a bit of a mix of everything; Haircare, Skincare and makeup. Firstly, I used up my La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Sensitive SPF 50 Sunscreen. This isn't my favourite SPF but it does do the job. I wear three pumps of this on my face every day and it has lasted about 3 months. I think the formula is ok it can feel a bit sticky and takes a while to sink in but it isn't my favourite but it isn't a product I don't like. I have repurchased this, because SPF is THE most important part of my skincare routine and when I ran out I knew I could run to Superdrug and repurchase this, because I did not want to go without. Secondly, I finished my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. I cannot remember the last time I finished a foundation! This is, without a doubt, my favourite drugstore foundation. It bl...

July Empties

Ahhh another month another empties blog. I actually got through quite a bit of makeup this month, which is unusual for me as it's usually skincare I crank through.  The first product I used up was my beloved Glossier Futuredew. I didn't realise how much I loved this until it was gone. My makeup feels so much different without this as a base and I do miss it as part of my makeup routine. I have a few other primers to get through but I will definitely repurchase this one in the future. The second product I used was my benefit liquid eyeliner. I did like this liner; it's opaque, the felt tip is quite nice and it lasted such a long time before drying up. I do prefer brush tipped eyeliners as I find with hooded eyes my winged eyeliner always looks a lot more precise than with a pen style. So I purchased the KVD liquid eyeliner instead, but the benefit eyeliner is great just not my favourite.  My third empty is my smash box primer water. I adore this spray, it comes out as a f...

Reviewing Bioderma's Hydrabio Range

If you've followed my blog for a few years, you'll know Bioderma is one of my favourite skincare brands. Their Micellar water is a product I refuse to live without and I've gone through too many to count. I was over the moon when Bioderma kindly sent me their Hydrabio Range* to try. The Hydrabio range is aimed at combating dehydrated, dry, skin, which I'm especially prone to in winter. 1. Hydrabio Makeup Removing Micellar Water Now, Bioderma's Sensibio micellar water is a holy grail skincare product in my collection. Believe it or not, I didn't realise Bioderma did other varieties of micellar water for different skin concerns. I've been using the Hydrabio micellar water for a few days and I do find my skin feels more hydrated and plump, compared to the sensibio one. It removes makeup just as well as the Sensibio micellar water and I find the Hydrabio micellar water to be a little more gentle and soothing. I would definitely repurchase the Hydrabio version in...
